Medscheme Walkerville MTB Race

Many had expected the weather to be a whole lot worse at the Medscheme Walkerville MTB Race, it was warmer than usual for that time of year and there was a good feeling in the air as all the participants started to arrive. It was clear that Medscheme had pulled no punches, branding everywhere as usual.

Wynand and his team had managed to once again put together a great race at the Lapeng venue, a well marked route made for great days racing and socialising.

After a very successful campaign at the XCO in Fountains the day before Team Ghost BBT was ready to tackle the course.
Our New Hyundai H1 did us proud and was a point of discussion as the H1 is a serious motor vehicle.
Competing for top honours today would be Sanet Smal and Laetitia Botha over a tough and Windy 60km route. Simone and Savannah Vosloo also came out firing and it was clear that they had plans to go as hard as they could for as long as they could.
Savannah obliterated the entire field and managed to finish first lady in the overall general classifications followed only minutes later by Simone for an absolutely beautiful end to a fantastic racing weekend. They both commented afterwards on how the wind adds a new dimension to racing, “it was tough, just the way we like it.”

In the 60km marathon, Yolande Du Toit secured the 1st place podium spot with Sanet Smal rounding off the podium with solid 3rd place at the event.

Laetitia Botha had a case of “air out of the tyre syndrome” and lost a considerable amount of time over her peers in the race, a good day none the less considering it is the first real MTB race at the end of a long and very cold Winter.

Look out for Team Ghost BBT at the Nissan Diamond Dash this coming weekend.
